About
Gettysburg College Through Time is a map-driven database that brings campus history to life by giving users an idea of what the campus and surrounding area looked like at any given point in history. Here's what you can do:
- Scroll through "time" by manipulating the timeline feature.
- Stop at any year to see what the college looked like at that time.
- Click on any building to see photographs, historical information, and other resources.
- Select "Browse Buildings" at the top of this page to see a full listing of college (RED) and non-college (YELLOW) buildings.
- Search for any building by name, address, or keyword in the "Browse Buildings" section.
This project was inspired by the research of Dr. Charles H. Glatfelter, Dr. Michael Birkner, and Gregory Landrey. For a detailed history of campus, please consult A Salutary Influence: Gettysburg College, 1832-1985, by Dr. Charles H. Glatfelter.
Much of the research for this project was conducted at the Adams County Historical Society with the help of historians Timothy H. Smith and Randy J. Miller. Visit the society's website for more information about the resources available there: https://www.achs-pa.org
The software for this project was originally used by the Illinois Institute of Technology. It was implemented for this project by Systems Librarian R.C. Miessler.
I wish to thank the staff of Gettysburg College Special Collections, especially Ron Couchman, Carolyn Sautter, Amy Lucadamo, and Catherine Perry.
